What is eczema?

Eczema is a skin condition caused by inflammation of the skin. Typically, eczema causes skin to become itchy, red, and dry—even cracked and leathery. Eczema can appear on any part of the body. What causes eczema?

Eczema runs in families. Certain genes can make some people have extra-sensitive skin. An overactive immune system is thought to be a factor as well. Also, it's thought that defects in the skin's protective barrier contribute to eczema, by allowing moisture out through the skin and letting germs in. Factors that may trigger eczema include: stress, contact with irritating substances, heat and sweat, cold, dry climates, and dry skin.

I see that SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) is in CLn BodyWash. Is that the same thing as SLS?

No, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) is very different from SLS, or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a common foaming agent in many personal care products, but does not fall within CLn Skin Care's standards for skin-friendly ingredients. CLn BodyWash carries the National Eczema Association seal of acceptance based on its skin-friendly ingredients.
